Taking place during the twilight months of Lockdown, the recording sessions for ‘Hit The Lights’ took place in secret in the Lochwinnoch countryside. At this stage the group is essentially RJ White’s solo project with him writing most of the material and experimenting extensively with noise and tape loops. However Kate Fleming’s fascination with synthesizers, which would become a staple of her later soundtrack work, is present everywhere. Be it the pure synthpop of fan-favourite ‘Blitzkrieg & I’ or the surf-infused ‘Catatonically Alive’, Hit The Lights perfectly captured the gloomy zeitgeist of the lockdown era.
